Mountain Engineering is seeking experienced candidates to support PG&E's Gas, Transmission, Routine and Wood Management Vegetation Programs. The Estimating Arborist (EA) will serve as the primary Vegetation Management (VM) contact for new business and re-construction work requested by the client. The EA role is critical in maintaining positive customer relations and ensuring effective communication of tree work requirements to both PG&E customers and public agencies. The EA will assist with fire investigations, manage the VM refusal process, and support various vegetation management tasks to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and PG&E Vegetation Management procedures. Your expertise will contribute to the successful execution of both routine and non-routine projects, emergency response duties, and the management of the contract review process.

Role & Responsibilities

  • The primary job function of the Estimating Arborist will be to act as the Vegetation Management contact for new business and re-construction work requested by the Energy Delivery organization.
  • Maintain positive customer relations while communicating tree work requirements to PG&E customers and to public agencies, such as California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), California Department of Forestry (CDF), United States Forest Service (USFS) and Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
  • Assist with fire investigations.
  • Manage and/or assist with the VM refusal process at the direction of the PG&E VM Representative.
  • Support identification and communications related to required tree pruning and tree/brush removal Work needed to facilitate completion of electric compliance tags such as 540 tags to meet all regulatory requirements and/or to PG&E Vegetation Management standards and procedures.
  • Assist with the management of projects routine and non-routine.
  • Support team in management of the contract review process.
  • Communicate required tree pruning and tree/brush removal Work needed to build electrical facilities in compliance with all regulatory requirements and/or PG&E Vegetation Management standards and procedures.
  • The EA shall maintain direct contact and a positive working relationship with local estimating personnel as directed by the PG&E VM Representative.
  • As needed, coordinating tree work within timelines of construction schedules.
  • As requested by the PG&E VM Representative, the EA shall perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with all safety requirements, laws and regulations, and applicable labor agreements.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • An EA shall have a minimum of one (1) year of utility Vegetation Management experience and must be familiar with the PG&E Vegetation Management Program.
  • An EA is required to become a Certified Arborist within one year and is preferably currently a Certified Arborist, Utility Specialist or Registered Professional Forester.
  • The EA shall exhibit the ability to work independently and be, proper arboricultural techniques and practices, subject pole hardware, proper integrated vegetation management practices, and all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • The EA must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Must also request bids from tree contractors, when necessary, for a given project.

Physical Demands

Sitting for long periods of time working at the computer or driving to job sites. Job site visits require walking on uneven ground, climbing, bending, stooping, and crawling in confined or enclosed spaces. Some lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May work long hours during peak seasons.

Work Environment

Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Exposed to the conditions of job sites which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions prevalent at the time. May work various shifts or hours, including early mornings, dusk or evenings.
