Logistic Port Inspector
A Port Logistics Inspector ensures the safe and efficient flow of goods and materials through the port by conducting inspections of cargo (transported equipment). The Port Logistics Inspector works closely with the management team to communicate the status and condition of equipment once it’s offloaded and prepared for ship to warehouse.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cargo and Container Inspection: Inspect and account for unit cargo carefully for damage.
- Safety and Security Compliance: Monitor and enforce safety regulations, ensuring that all port operations adhere to established safety protocols. Ensure that the port complies with security measures, including those mandated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
- Documentation and Reporting: Review shipping documents, including manifests, bills of lading, and customs paperwork, to ensure accuracy and compliance. Document inspection results and report discrepancies to management or relevant authorities.
- TWIC Card Compliance: Must have verified credentials to gain access to secured areas within the port. Transportation Worker Identification Cards (TWIC).
- Equipment Inspections: Conduct inspections and survey equipment offloaded from the ship (RORO). The units being inspected are 30,000 lbs invertors that come wrapped. 90% of the job is ensuring and reporting on the condition of the equipment from point to point.
- Logistics - Shipment Compliance: Ensure the units are loaded to the correct flatbed for its final destination.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other port departments, shipping companies, truck drivers, and regulatory agencies to ensure smooth cargo handling and logistics operations.
- Incident Reporting: Report any safety hazards, damage, unusual incidents to management or relevant authorities.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent experience working as an inspector at a Port.
- Experience: Previous experience in logistics, transportation, or port operations preferred. Experience with inspection, safety compliance, or working at a port is beneficial.
- Licenses/Certifications: A valid TWIC card is required. Certification in hazardous materials handling or OSHA safety standards may be required or preferred.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with MS Excel software, inventory systems. Ability to read and interpret shipping documents and cargo manifests.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure compliance with regulations and the safe handling of cargo. Attention to detail. Punctual, reliable. Must have reliable transportation.
- Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills to interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including port management, cargo handlers, and regulatory authorities.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to conduct inspections and stand for long periods, as well as the ability to lift and carry moderate weights as needed.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues related to cargo.
Working Conditions:
- Work is typically conducted in a port environment, which may involve exposure to weather conditions, loud noise, and large equipment.
- Shift work, 7am – 4pm.
- Safety gear (e.g., hard hats, safety vests, gloves) must be worn as required.
