Job Description

Responsible for providing protection and security for the Department of Behavioral Health, Saint Elizabeths Hospital. Responds to reports of bomb threats, robberies, assaults, disturbances and other incidents and takes charge at the scene and makes written reports or events. Notifies the Metropolitan Police Department and/or law enforcement agencies of a serious crime and any action taken. Conducts special investigations involving the application of police detection measures to apprehend and establish proof in cases of petty theft, vandalism etc. Responds to disorderly disturbances and other incidents on campus locations. Assists Law Enforcement Agencies in serving warrants and subpoenas to consumers when and where appropriate. Issues traffic violation and citations to violators. As needed, assigned to Solution Center to relay messages, maintain logs, and assist in dispatching personnel and equipment. Maintains contacts with mentally challenged individuals in care, D.C. Government employees, the general public and law enforcement agencies. Qualifications In addition to meeting the basic requirements, this position requires one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (DS-07). Licensures, Certifications and other requirements A Valid Drivers License is required. Must obtain and retain a valid Special Police Officer’s Commission through the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs. Education Must possess a high school diploma or a certificate of equivalency (GED). Work Experience Demonstrated work experience providing protection and security in facilities responsible for the care of patients. Work is performed in a combined environment consisting of institutional wards, offices and outdoor settings. Tour of Duty Required to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. Duration of Appointment Permanent. This position IS in the collective bargaining unit and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through an automatic payroll deduction.
